First film poster draft

When we first started designing our film poster we decided to make it have more conventions of a horror poster than a action poster. The reason we decided to do this is because it is conventional for the antagonist of the film to appear on the cover of the horror poster as this attracts audiences to it which compels them to go and see the movie. This is a clear contrast from action movie posters as they will usually have the films protagonist on the front cover as they are usually will be played by a well known actor so by having them on the front of the poster fans of that actor will want to go and see the film more.

Below is the first draft of our film poster:

As you can see the poster has a close-up on the face of the antagonists face which is hidden behind the mask with the rest of the photo being darkness which creates an ominous atmosphere surrounding the photo as it forces the audience to focus on the antagonist making him look more sinister.

To make sure that our poster was conventional to our genre we showed the draft to people who were part of our genres target audience so that we could get some useful feedback to which we could apply to our second poster draft when we create it. The responses we received are here:

'The poster is too simple as it only shows the face and nothing else'. - Owen

'The poster is abysmal'. - Josh

'The face makes the poster very intense . I like the font on this one because of how angular and aggressive it looks. Has a good tagline but also has too much dead space.' - Mr Vardy

'The poster doesn't show very much maybe this is due to the lack of colour? but good job' - Tamzin

As you can see while this poster did receive some positive feedback about how it looked very menacing and intense. We were also told that the font on this poster looked very good because of how strong and powerful it looks which would attract a larger audience as the title is normally the first thing that stands out on a poster.

However, lots of it was negative with the main point being the simplicity of the poster as it lacked detail with the only thing appearing in the poster being the antagonists face which left a lot of empty space which we could of used to include more into it. So to improve for the second poster draft I will need to include more detail in the photo such as having the antagonist standing in one of the films locations so that audiences will recognize the place in the trailer.
